I've also had the problem with the button settings but have a partial solution. I was actually going to map ENTER to my pen button in order to immediately close the gaps that appear, but the pen buttons stubbornly want to be pan or menu pop-up no matter what I do. Again I used to leave the base to the app to close immediately when I let up from drawing the shape.įor me, the lasso tool in GIMP is unnecessarily fussy and "sticky", although very intuitive and useful for slower, more meticulous work. I usually begin with a blob and then build on that, which means that the "base" of the subsequent shapes I draw with the lasso tool rarely need to be detailed.
When I'm painting I'm used to creating a bunch of shapes, really fast with the selection/lasso tool. When I'm doing specific highlights like that it's not AS detrimental to my workflow as when I'm painting, however. In GIMP, you can achieve the same result by pressing ENTER after drawing a shape, but then I need to reach for that key every time. When I let go, it would immediately close the gap at the top. In photoshop I just used to do a "U" shape, because I only need the bottom part to be a specific shape. I'm used to being more gung ho with drawing my selection.įor example, I've coloured a character and I want a quick highlight on his nose. And with my tablet, it's not a problem to close a lasso selection :-) But in most cases, I make a rough selection with the lasso tool and then enhance it with the quick mask.Ĭlosing a lasso selection is easy enough to do, in terms of functionality.
