If you have a preamp with a dual monoblock poweramp-WD is easy, but you'll need 2 cabs still(where 1x12's come into their own )There isn't a need then to mic up if the room doesn't warrant it-WD comes out dead centre of the sound spectrum-like a pair of mono amps sitting next to one another-essentially that's what WD is. The best you can hope to do is go wet/dry(dry signal in one cab,wet signal in the other with the dry signal in it muted to avoid phasing) or dual mono, mic it up and mix it mono-and then it's easier to get amp with an effects loop and go mono. One way I have seen/heard about players,is to set up their own mics and mixer, and hand the sound guy a pair of XLR's-this takes the sound out of the FOH guys hands a ways, but if he only has one strip left on the desk, again he'll only amp one side of you carefully crafted stereo field. That's a lot of hassle for a guitar rig,let alone the expense and is far away from sure fire. Stereo or WDW,unless your a major touring act, where are you going to find those resources?

In stereo, forget about using the so called "stereo" sides of a quad or 2x12- doesn't isolate or project the L/R signals properly,'cause the LR signal bounce around, mix and phase inside the cab. To illustrate, you are trying to translate what you hear standing between your 2 cabs and mimicing that for the audience. That what I mean about having to have the crowd dead centre of stage.

You'll need to mic it up,make sure the room your playing in has a stereo/multi spectrum PA,and have the audience standing dead centre of stage to get the full effect-standing either side of centre they only hear the left or right.

If I recorded or had the places to use it. Thing is,as good as I think it can sound,I never take it anywhere, more likely to grab my pedal board and a head and cab if I go out. Not trumpetting, but the WDW system I built up can be run WDW,loaded stereo, mono with just amp fx loop, with or without post amp processors, with or without pre gain stuff. It's modular.I think I could even tweak it to run wet/dry. The best systems I know about are configurable to run in many different formats. Try to do alot of reading about "rack systems" and how they are implemented. First up,sorry, this is a long post, mainly because I think roots of the "rack bashing" thing that happens at times can be traced to the fact that rigs like you are talking about don't offer the "instant gratification factor" and get dismissed as "all racks are crap".
